ONE DIES, ONE SURVIVES IN S. PLATTE RIVER
One man died and a second man managed to fight his way to shore early Tuesday after they were swept down river near the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek.
Denver firefighters pulled an unconscious man from the river after he was found face down in the water, authorities say.
Rescuers responded after witnesses reported that two men either fell or jumped into the river near Confluence Park and then disappeared in the dark waters.
“Water right now is moving very fast. When you bring the Platte and Cherry Creek together it’s very turbulent. There’s a lot of energy,” said Capt. Gregory Pixley, a fire department spokesman.
