Looking ahead

The Denver Post - - SPORTS -

Phillies RHP Aaron Nola (8-7, 3.16 ERA) at Rockies RHP Jeff Hoffman (6-3, 5.38), 1:10 p.m. Sunday, AT&T Sportsnet; 850 AM

With Hoffman’s good friend, Kyle Freeland, now on the disabled list, the Rockies need their rookie starters to begin showing improvement in the final two months of the season. For Hoffman, that means pitching deeper into games and taming the beast that is Coors Field. In seven starts at Coors this season, Hoffman is 2-2 with a 7.04 ERA. He has faced the Phillies once this season, picking up a win at Citizens Bank Park on May 22, going seven innings, allowing one run on just three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Nola has never faced the Rockies. He’s been terrific of late, giving up two or fewer runs in eight consecutive starts, good for a 1.66 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched). His fastball velocity is up from last season (91.4 mph to 92.6) and he’s clearly an important part of the Phillies’ future. Off
