48-YEAR SENTENCE IN HOUSE PARTY DEATH
A man convicted of fatally shooting another man at a house party in Denver last autumn was sentenced Friday to 48 years in prison.
Salvador Vargas, 33, was convicted in June, after a four-day trial, of second-degree murder, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 27, 2016, Vargas fatally shot 54-yearold Rufino Perez at a house party in the 5500 block of Carson Street.
Vargas had been shot, and slightly wounded at the same party in an initial confrontation, the DA’S office said in a news release. Vargas later took a gun from his wife’s purse and shot Perez several times in retaliation.
Officer injured stopping motorcyclists. A Denver police officer was injured Saturday afternoon after trying to stop four motorcyclists who rode onto a closed bicycle race route for the Colorado Classic at Speer Boulevard and Zuni Street, according to the Denver Police Department.
One motorcyclist was injured and transported to a hospital when his motorcycle collided with the officer, who was on foot. The officer was transported to the hospital on a nonemergency status.
A second motorcyclist was taken into custody at 32nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard. The incident remains under investigation.
Boulder police investigate fatal shooting. BOULDER» Boulder police are investigating a fatal shooting at the San Juan Del Centro apartments that happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The shooting occurred inside a vehicle in a parking lot at the complex, police said in a news release, and the shooting victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to Boulder Community Health’s Foothill’s Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police and Boulder firefighters were seen taking down crime scene tape in a parking lot near the apartment complex’s leasing office at about 10:30 a.m. The leasing office also serves as a Boulder police substation.
Man accused of sexually abusing children. JUNCTION» A Grand
Junction man has been arrested on accusations that he sexually abused children who were left in his care, Denver7 reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, Collin Jensen, 41, abused at least three different children between May 2014 and July 2017.
Jensen also used a cell phone to take photos and videos, the affidavit states.
