Coach ar­raigned on child sex charges

The Ann Ar­bor Pi­o­neer var­sity baseball coach was ar­raigned Thurs­day af­ter al­legedly us­ing the in­ter­net to ar­range a date to have sex­ual re­la­tions with an un­der­age child.

Ma­comb County Sher­iff ’s Of­fice ar­rested Gerald Holley, 57, on Wed­nes­day af­ter un­der­cover de­tec­tives, dis­guised on­line as a child, be­gan con­vers­ing with him and ar­ranged a meet­ing.

Holley is em­ployed as a bi­ol­ogy teacher and coach at Pi­o­neer High School in Ann Ar­bor, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease from the Sher­iff ’s Of­fice.

Ac­cord­ing to the school’s web­site, Holley has been the baseball var­sity head coach at Pi­o­neer since 1995.

“Gerald Holley is an em­ployee at Pi­o­neer High and is on ad­min­is­tra­tive leave,” said Jean­ice Swift, Ann Ar­bor Pub­lic Schools su­per­in­ten­dent, in a state­ment.

The school Pi­o­neer High been no­ti­fied.

Holley was charged with three felony counts of child sex­u­ally abu­sive ac­tiv­ity and one felony count of us­ing the in­ter­net to com­mu­ni­cate with an­other to com­mit a crime. Each count car­ries a max­i­mum penalty of 20 years and the com­puter crime car­ries a max­i­mum penalty of life.

Holley was ar­raigned in 41-B District Court in Clin­ton Town­ship on Thurs­day. Bond was set at $50,000 and if he’s re­leased, he is or­dered to home con­fine­ment on a tether. He will re­turn to court for a prob­a­ble cause con­fer­ence Oct. 25.
