Mich. House hopeful charged
Southfield — A candidate for state Legislature has been charged with embezzling $100,000 or more from the campaign funds of Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner.
Jennifer Suidan, 34, of Wolverine Lake was arraigned Friday in Southfield 46th District Court on the offense, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The total amount of missing funds is about $150,000, according to sheriff’s deputies who investigated.
Suidan, who is accused of embezzling the funds while employed at the Goodman Acker law firm, turned herself in Friday and received a $25,000 personal bond. She has been fired from the law firm, where she managed campaign funds for Meisner and others.
Suidan could not be reached for comment. She was Meisner’s campaign manager in the 2012 and 2016 elections.
While her name will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot for the 39th District House seat, state Democrats have urged her to withdraw from the race. The 39th District includes parts of Commerce Township, West Bloomfield, Wixom and Wolverine Lake.
