Doris Margery ( Schradin) Kauffman
Doris Margery ( Schradin) Kauffman ( Dori), passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at the Seasons Hospice in Baltimore.
Dori was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Butler County, Ohio, to Aaron and Elizabeth ( Whipple) Schradin. She grew up on the family farm, and as an only child had many responsibilities associated with farm life. When she had free time, she enjoyed singing, exploring the woods behind her house and playing the piano and violin. She always had a passion for the arts and pursued many of them her entire life.
After graduating from Morgan Township High School, she attended The Studio School of Fashion Art in Cincinnati. She went to work for L. S. Ayers department store after college, working as an advertising fashion artist and also doing the Finishing Art and layouts for five years. She continued to work in the Art and Design field for several different companies and then continued doing free lance work for Henry Harvey and Sons, for another 30 years.
Dori also pursued her love of the arts by taking continuing education classes at Dundalk Community College. She enjoyed oil painting, watercolor, ceramic sculpture, alabaster sculpture and Raku. She was able to sell many of these works and left a wonderful collection. She also entered and won many of the local art competitions.
Doris is survived by her three sons and their families, Jerry and his wife Monica, Steven, James and his wife Caroline and five grandchildren, Christy, Stacy, Michelle, Brandon and Aaron Kauffman. She also had six greatgrandchildren, Kira, Jordan, Madison, Brayden, Michael and Blair Kauffman.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Harvey Richard Kauffman ( Dick). They moved to Baltimore in 1948 and lived out the remainder of their lives in Dundalk, serving and enjoying the local community.
Dori requested that her body be donated to the State Anatomy Board. Her ashes will be returned to the place of her birth in Ohio.
