Doris Margery ( Schradin) Kauff­man

Doris Margery ( Schradin) Kauff­man ( Dori), passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by her fam­ily Mon­day, Aug. 1, 2016, at the Sea­sons Hospice in Bal­ti­more.

Dori was born Oct. 3, 1922, in But­ler County, Ohio, to Aaron and El­iz­a­beth ( Whip­ple) Schradin. She grew up on the fam­ily farm, and as an only child had many re­spon­si­bil­i­ties as­so­ci­ated with farm life. When she had free time, she en­joyed singing, ex­plor­ing the woods be­hind her house and play­ing the pi­ano and vi­o­lin. She al­ways had a pas­sion for the arts and pur­sued many of them her en­tire life.

Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from Mor­gan Town­ship High School, she at­tended The Stu­dio School of Fash­ion Art in Cincin­nati. She went to work for L. S. Ay­ers de­part­ment store af­ter col­lege, work­ing as an ad­ver­tis­ing fash­ion artist and also do­ing the Fin­ish­ing Art and lay­outs for five years. She con­tin­ued to work in the Art and De­sign field for sev­eral dif­fer­ent com­pa­nies and then con­tin­ued do­ing free lance work for Henry Har­vey and Sons, for another 30 years.

Dori also pur­sued her love of the arts by tak­ing con­tin­u­ing ed­u­ca­tion classes at Dun­dalk Com­mu­nity Col­lege. She en­joyed oil paint­ing, wa­ter­color, ce­ramic sculp­ture, alabaster sculp­ture and Raku. She was able to sell many of th­ese works and left a won­der­ful col­lec­tion. She also en­tered and won many of the lo­cal art com­pe­ti­tions.

Doris is sur­vived by her three sons and their fam­i­lies, Jerry and his wife Mon­ica, Steven, James and his wife Caro­line and five grand­chil­dren, Christy, Stacy, Michelle, Bran­don and Aaron Kauff­man. She also had six great­grand­chil­dren, Kira, Jor­dan, Madi­son, Bray­den, Michael and Blair Kauff­man.

She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band of 56 years, Dr. Har­vey Richard Kauff­man ( Dick). They moved to Bal­ti­more in 1948 and lived out the re­main­der of their lives in Dun­dalk, serv­ing and en­joy­ing the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

Dori re­quested that her body be do­nated to the State Anatomy Board. Her ashes will be re­turned to the place of her birth in Ohio.
