Bridges of Madison County opens at DCT
Dundalk Community Theatre is kicking off its 2017-2018 season with a critically-acclaimed musical hit The Bridges of Madison County.
The musical is based on Robert James Waller’s best-selling 1992 novel which recounts the story of Francesca Johnson, an Italian war bride turned housewife living on an Iowa farm with her husband and two teenage children.
When her family leaves for a trip to the 1965 Iowa State Fair, Francesca encounters Robert Kincaid, a photographer photographing covered bridges for National Geographic magazine.
When Robert pulls into her driveway seeking directions to one such bridge, it sets into motion a whirlwind four-day romance which leads both to question their path in life and the roads yet to be traveled.
The musical, developed by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (“Parade,” “The Last Five Years”), with book by Pulitzer Prize winning writer Marsha Norman (“The Secret Garden,” “The Color Purple,” “night, Mother”), premiered on Broadway at the Gerald Shoenfeld Theatre on Feb. 20, 2014, and ran 137 performances before closing on May 18, 2014.
For Dundalk Community Theatre’s production, the cast is led by Nancy Asendorf as Francesca and Tom Burns as Robert Kincaid.

Behind the scenes, the show’s creative team includes director Todd Pearthree and music director Glenette (Rohner) Schumacher. Scenic/lighting/sound and technical direction will be spearheaded by veteran Dundalk Community Theatre pro Marc W. Smith.
