Sparrows Point defeated Lansdowne 3-0 on May 8 at CCBC Catonsville for the Pointers first Baltimore County title in their first appearance in the championship game.

Jessica Miller blanked the Vikings, the county regularseason champs, on five hits while striking out six and walking one.

Miller also helped score the winning run for the Pointers with a leadoff triple in the top of the fourth inning.

Up to that point, Lansdowne pitcher Jordyn Goodman had retired the first nine Pointer batters.

Nicole Auvil ran for Miller and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Monaldi to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead.

Sparrows Point added an unearned run in the fifth inning with the help of two Lansdowne errors.

The Pointers extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the seventh as Megan Hamp singled and eventually scored on a single by Alyssa Shiflett.

The Vikings had threatened in the bottom of the third when a single and an error put runners on first and second with no outs.

Sparrows Point left fielder Savannah Hunter made a good catch on a depe fly ball. The runner tagged up and scored from second , but was ruled to have left the base early and was called out.

Miller ended the inning with a strikeout.

Lansdowne also had runners in scoring position in the first and second innings, but each time Miller escaped the jam.

Miller didn’t allow a hit in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
