Yoga stu­dio opens its doors in Dun­dalk

As life be­comes in­creas­ingly stress­ful and hec­tic, men­tal and phys­i­cal health can suf­fer.

Crys­tal Crisp, a reg­is­tered yoga teacher and cer­ti­fied health and heal­ing coach, is hop­ing to help lo­cal res­i­dents find their own peace in the midst of a busy world.

To that end, Crisp re­cently opened her own yoga stu­dio, Mind­ful You Yoga Stu­dio, at 1705B Po­plar Place in the Po­plar Place Shop­ping Cen­ter at Mer­ritt Boule­vard and Wise Av­enue.

A rib­bon-cut­ting/grand open­ing cer­e­mony was held at the new stu­dio on Aug. 5.

For lo­cal res­i­dent Crisp, the open­ing marked the ful­fill­ment of a long­time dream.

“Af­ter many years of trav­el­ing far and wide to train and teach, my dream was to ul­ti­mately open a bou­tique yoga stu­dio close to my home in Dun­dalk,” she told the Ea­gle.

She added, “I felt the need to of­fer Dun­dalk what I was able to ex­pe­ri­ence out­side of the area, espe­cially with the unique style of yoga of­fered by our in­struc­tors at Mind­ful You Yoga Stu­dio.”

A cer­ti­fied yoga teacher and health and heal­ing coach, Crisp has com­pleted hun­dreds of hours of teacher train­ing dur­ing her ca­reer.

She aims, she noted in a bi­og­ra­phy on her web­site, to “as­sist stu­dents in de­vel­op­ing a deeper con­nec­tion with mind, body and spirit through a breath cen­tered yoga prac­tice.”

At Mind­ful You, Crisp and her fel­low in­struc­tors — in­clud­ing Greg Ni­grin, L ynda Holtschnei­der, Daniel Ra­hayel, Ben Baci­galupa and Daniella Baci­galupa — fo­cus on the prac­tice of mind­ful­ness, de­scribed by Crisp as “be­ing present, aware of your breath, your move­ment, bod­ily sen­sa­tions and thoughts.”

“Mind­ful­ness leads to deep re­lax­ation and trans­for­ma­tion on every level — phys­i­cal, men­tal and emo­tional,” she added.

The stu­dio of­fers a va­ri­ety of yoga classes for all ages and needs, in­clud­ing MY Move­ment classes, com­mu­nity yoga classes, mind­ful ASANA, Gen­tle Yoga for Chronic Pain, Yin yoga, YANG to YIN, Vinyasa Flow, Mommy and Me classes and more.

The cost for the com­mu­nity class is $5 per class. Drop-ins are $12 per class. Stu­dents can also pur­chase a five-class pack for $49 or a 10-class pack for $99. Mind­ful You also of­fers a 10 per­cent discount for first re­spon­ders, mil­i­tary mem­bers and veter­ans and their im­me­di­ate fam­i­lies.

Ac­cord­ing to Crisp, while the stu­dio has just opened, the wel­come from the com­mu­nity has been a warm one.

“The re­sponse has been im­pres­sive,” she said. “We have seen new par­tic­i­pants from the Dun­dalk area, and reg­u­lar at­ten­dees travel from out­side Dun­dalk to at­tend classes.”

For now, Crisp is busy fill­ing her class sched­ule and plan­ning a va­ri­ety of work­shops and spe­cial events.

In ad­di­tion to yoga, the stu­dio will work with the Baltimore Art & Mu­sic Project. Works by artist Do­minique Sa­marco will be dis­played at the stu­dio un­til the end of Septem­ber.
