As life becomes increasingly stressful and hectic, mental and physical health can suffer.

Crystal Crisp, a registered yoga teacher and certified health and healing coach, is hoping to help local residents find their own peace in the midst of a busy world.

To that end, Crisp recently opened her own yoga studio, Mindful You Yoga Studio, at 1705B Poplar Place in the Poplar Place Shopping Center at Merritt Boulevard and Wise Avenue.

A ribbon-cutting/grand opening ceremony was held at the new studio on Aug. 5.

For local resident Crisp, the opening marked the fulfillment of a longtime dream.

“After many years of traveling far and wide to train and teach, my dream was to ultimately open a boutique yoga studio close to my home in Dundalk,” she told the Eagle.

She added, “I felt the need to offer Dundalk what I was able to experience outside of the area, especially with the unique style of yoga offered by our instructors at Mindful You Yoga Studio.”

A certified yoga teacher and health and healing coach, Crisp has completed hundreds of hours of teacher training during her career.

She aims, she noted in a biography on her website, to “assist students in developing a deeper connection with mind, body and spirit through a breath centered yoga practice.”

At Mindful You, Crisp and her fellow instructors — including Greg Nigrin, L ynda Holtschneider, Daniel Rahayel, Ben Bacigalupa and Daniella Bacigalupa — focus on the practice of mindfulness, described by Crisp as “being present, aware of your breath, your movement, bodily sensations and thoughts.”

“Mindfulness leads to deep relaxation and transformation on every level — physical, mental and emotional,” she added.

The studio offers a variety of yoga classes for all ages and needs, including MY Movement classes, community yoga classes, mindful ASANA, Gentle Yoga for Chronic Pain, Yin yoga, YANG to YIN, Vinyasa Flow, Mommy and Me classes and more.

The cost for the community class is $5 per class. Drop-ins are $12 per class. Students can also purchase a five-class pack for $49 or a 10-class pack for $99. Mindful You also offers a 10 percent discount for first responders, military members and veterans and their immediate families.

According to Crisp, while the studio has just opened, the welcome from the community has been a warm one.

“The response has been impressive,” she said. “We have seen new participants from the Dundalk area, and regular attendees travel from outside Dundalk to attend classes.”

For now, Crisp is busy filling her class schedule and planning a variety of workshops and special events.

In addition to yoga, the studio will work with the Baltimore Art & Music Project. Works by artist Dominique Samarco will be displayed at the studio until the end of September.
