The Town of Elkton is seeking the right man or woman who can provide competent and progressiv­e leadership for a team of police officers and non- Elkton Police Department. sworn personnel of the The Elkton Police Department currently has an authorized strength of fortyfive (45) sworn officers and seven (7) support staff, operating on a budget of $6,381,619 (FY 2021) and is responsibl­e for public safety and law enforcemen­t services in a community encompassi­ng approximat­ely 8.5 square miles with a population of 15,600 residents and a net assessable real property tax base of $1,189,754,225. In these challengin­g times this individual would have to possess the necessary public safety/law enforcemen­t background and command experience, but also he or she must have the ability to face and overcome the challenges that have emerged in recent times that have affected our community, as well as other communitie­s across our great country. Progressiv­eness, competence, flexibilit­y, empathy, and a positive attitude are qualities sought for this leadership role. as described hereinafte­r, Candidates should ideally have a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field along with ten (10) years of experience as a sworn municipal police officer, five (5) years of which was in an increasing­ly responsibl­e leadership role. Graduation from command level training such as the FBI National Academy or another accredited law enforcemen­t command training program is preferred. Candidates must be highly collaborat­ive, problem solving leaders with a communicat­ive and team-oriented management style.
