County ac­cept­ing nom­i­na­tions for Com­mis­sion on Dis­abil­i­ties Awards

— The Bal­ti­more County Com­mis­sion on Dis­abil­i­ties is now ac­cept­ing nom­i­na­tions for its 30th an­nual Dis­abil­i­ties Awards pro­gram. The dead­line for nom­i­na­tions is Tues­day, Septem­ber 1.

The awards pro­gram seeks to rec­og­nize in­di­vid­ual achieve­ments of peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties and ac­tiv­i­ties un­der­taken by in­di­vid­u­als, groups or or­ga­ni­za­tions that con­trib­ute to the wel­fare of peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties.

“In these chal­leng­ing times, it’s par­tic­u­larly im­por­tant for us to come to­gether to rec­og­nize self­less in­di­vid­u­als for their sac­ri­fice, per­se­ver­ance in the face of ad­ver­sity and com­mit­ment to help­ing those in need,” said Bal­ti­more County Ex­ec­u­tive John Ol­szewski.

County Com­mis­sion on Dis­abil­i­ties for con­tin­u­ing this proud tra­di­tion in hold­ing their 30th an­nual awards pro­gram and I strongly en­cour­age county res­i­dents to con­sider nom­i­nat­ing a can­di­date to­day.”

Seven award cat­e­gories will be con­sid­ered in­volv­ing ac­tiv­i­ties re­lated to ed­u­ca­tion, em­ploy­ment, ad­vo­cacy, vol­un­teerism and ac­ces­si­bil­ity. or pri­vate grade school, high school or col­lege in Bal­ti­more County, and who is an ex­cep­tional role model not only for stu­dents with dis­abil­i­ties, but for all stu­dents. Teacher of the Year Award A teacher who, through ex­cep­tional ef­fort both in and out­side of the class­room, in­stills in oth­ers a pos­i­tive at­ti­tude and ac­cep­tance of per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties, and pro­motes in­clu­sive ed­u­ca­tion best prac­tices. This per­son must teach in Bal­ti­more County in any pub­lic or pri­vate pro­gram from preschool to post­sec­ondary. dis­abil­i­ties. The busi­ness or agency will have an ex­cep­tional record of prac­tic­ing equal op­por­tu­nity in em­ploy­ment for peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties.

Em­ployee Award

A full or part-time em­ployee with a dis­abil­ity who lives or works in Bal­ti­more County, is fully in­te­grated into the work­force, and is a model not only for per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties but for all em­ploy­ees to em­u­late. per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties in Bal­ti­more County.
