The Dundalk Eagle - - REC COUNCIL NEWS -

Youth rec sports allowed to begin, with restrictions

The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks announced last month it will authorize rec councils to hold youth sports in the fall, with strict requirements in place to protect public health and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Rec programs will not be able to use the facilities of any Baltimore County public schools. This may have an impact on available programs. Only facilities under the jurisdiction of Recreation and parks can be used.

Local rec councils are planning to sponsor the following sports this fall:

Bear Creek — baseball; Berkshire-Eastwood — baseball, softball;

Dundalk-Eastfield — baseball, lacrosse, soccer and softball;

Edgemere-Sparrows Point — baseball, cheerleading, field hockey, football, soccer and softball;

Turner Station — football, marching band;

Watersedge — cheerleading, soccer;

West Inverness — baseball. Tackle football is not allowed; only flag football. Other sports are tentative; some may be cancelled due to lack of registration or due to the increased requirements listed below.

Using guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Baltimore County Health Department, and the National Recreation and Parks Association, the County developed guidelines to protect public health, which includes requiring the use of face coverings by all individuals who aren’t actively playing the sport, and limiting spectators to parents and guardians of players.

The plan also encourages social distancing and prohibits individuals from sharing personal equipment.
