Kent County Eco­nomic De­vel­op­ment serves the lo­cal busi­ness com­mu­nity. Kent County promptly set up a web page for coro­n­avirus up­dates, which in­cluded a sec­tion for ‘Busi­ness Re­sources.’ This sec­tion in­cluded links to state, fed­eral, lo­cal, and pri­vate re­sources to as­sist busi­nesses through the chal­lenges that COVID-19 brought. The County Com­mis­sion­ers uti­lized a stag­nant re­volv­ing loan fund pro­ceeds to of­fer $1,000 Small Busi­ness COVID-19 Emer­gency Grants to 84 busi­nesses. When the Coro­n­avirus Re­lief Funds be­came avail­able through the CARES Act, the County Com­mis­sion­ers ap­proved two ad­di­tional grant pro­grams to as­sist our busi­nesses and or­ga­ni­za­tions. Kent CARES for Growth Grant and COVID Mod­i­fi­ca­tion Re­im­burse­ment Grant for a to­tal of $325,000 go­ing out to our busi­ness com­mu­nity. In ad­di­tion the County hired a ded­i­cated busi­ness con­sul­tant to as­sist Kent County busi­nesses nav­i­gate the fi­nan­cial pro­grams of­fered as a re­sult of COVID, as well as any tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance they re­quire.
