Group talks about faith, men­tal health

Rais­ing aware­ness about men­tal health while pro­mot­ing con­ver­sa­tion on the power of faith, Gabriel’s Lyric Ther­a­peu­tic Ser­vices, in con­junc­tion with the Part­ner­ship for Re­newal in South and Cen­tral Mary­land and the New Cre­ation Com­mu­nity Im­prove­ment Cor­po­ra­tion, hosted its first an­nual faith and men­tal health con­fer­ence Sept. 9 at Union Bethel AME Church in Brandy­wine.

The event — fa­cil­i­tated by the Rev. John C. Welch, dean of stu­dents and vice pres­i­dent for stu­dent ser­vices and com­mu­nity en­gage­ment at the Pitts­burgh The­o­log­i­cal Sem­i­nary — fea­tured four break out ses­sions and two dif­fer­ent pan­els on ed­u­cat­ing clergy and lay lead­ers, as well as men­tal health chal­lenges af­fect­ing youth and the el­derly.
