Learn about causes and treat­ment of joint pain

The MedS­tar South­ern Mary­land Hos­pi­tal Cen­ter will have Dr. Daniel Hamp­ton at the Ask-the-Doc­tor sem­i­nar se­ries on Thurs­day, Dec. 8. The sem­i­nar will be in MedS­tar South­ern Mary­land Hos­pi­tal Cen­ter’s meet­ing room at 7503 Sur­ratts Road in Clin­ton from 6:30-8 p.m. The topic for Dr. Hamp­ton’s pre­sen­ta­tion is “Ad­vances in the Man­age­ment of Joint Pain” where he will dis­cuss “causes of hip and knee pain, in­clud­ing arthri­tis (wear­ing out of the joint), ten­donitis and bur­si­tis (in­flam­ma­tion) and frac­tures (of­ten found in older pa­tients, as bone den­sity de­creases with age). You will also get in­for­ma­tion about “avail­able treat­ment op­tions, in­clud­ing ex­er­cise, pain re­lief med­i­ca­tion, mi­nor surgery and to­tal joint re­place­ment” as well as sev­eral help­ful med­i­cal treat­ments as the doc­tor dis­cusses med­i­cal is­sues that can lead to joint re­place­ment and in­for­ma­tion about surgery, re­cov­ery, post-op­er­a­tive re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion and other re­lated health ques­tions. The sem­i­nar will con­clude with a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion for au­di­ence par­tic­i­pa­tion. The se­lec­tions and the prices are ar­ranged to catch your eyes as you read the news­pa­per, look at the tele­vi­sion and as well as when you go to the shop­ping cen­ter or to the stores. These trips give you an op­por­tu­nity to shop at large shop­ping ar­eas with­out hav­ing to fight the traf­fic as you drive there. These places have a variety of stores, plenty of mer­chan­dise, as well as a variety of choices to pick from. And, you can have fun as you shop with other friends.

Lo­cally, for in­stance, there will be op­por­tu­ni­ties for get­ting gifts in the area. Mount Ephraim Bap­tist Church at 610 Large Road in Up­per Marl­boro will have new and hand­made gifts avail­able for pur­chase from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the church on Satur­day, Dec. 3. There will be jew­elry, home dé­cor, hats, ladies cloth­ing and ac­ces­sories, per­sonal skin care prod­ucts and other items for you to chose from. The Mount Ephraim Bap­tist Church Schol­ar­ship Min­istry’s pre­sen­ta­tion of A Hol­i­day Gift Show Ex­trav­a­ganza and Bake Sale will have lots of gift items as well as de­li­cious baked goods. Win­ter Fes­ti­val of Lights sched­uled

How about a drive through Watkins Re­gional Park while look­ing out your car win­dow see­ing hol­i­day lights boast­ing one mil­lion glit­ter­ing lights as well as dozens of dis­plays which will in­clude Santa fly­ing a he­li­copter as well as Santa driv­ing a fire truck. The cost to en­ter the park at 301 Watkins Park Drive in Up­per Marl­boro is $10 per car or van, $15 for multi-visit pass, $20 per mini-bus/limo and $30 per bus. Ad­mis­sion is free on Dec. 25. You are asked to bring canned goods/ non-per­ish­able items for do­na­tions that will be given to lo­cal food banks.
