A collision resulting in one fatality that also sent two other people to the hospital was reported at 6:34 a.m. Monday morning near Dameron on Route 235 and Wills Road.

“It was a head-on” accident, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Julie Yingling, interim public information officer, said on the phone Monday.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Andrea Denise Ridgell, 31, of Dameron, was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, according to a sheriff’s office release. For unknown reasons, her

vehicle crossed the centerline and continued into the path of Edward James Buser III, 59, of Ridge, who was going northbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.

Buser was pronounced dead at the scene. Ridgell and a juvenile passenger were transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Ridgell was not at the hospital as of Tuesday morning, hospital staff stated.

At this time, alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet provided a statement is asked to contact Cpl. Brian Connelly at 301-475-4200, ext. *8031. This incident is the 18th traffic fatality in St. Mary’s County so far this year.

Police and rescue vehicles close off a portion of Route 235 in Dameron early Monday morning after a vehicle collision resulting in one fatality was reported.
