Re­call­ing Medal of Honor re­cip­i­ents

St. Mary’s County com­mis­sion­ers John O’Con­nor (R), stand­ing at left, and Mike He­witt (R) present procla­ma­tions on Satur­day to Wes Mumper, camp com­man­der of the Sgt. James H. Har­ris Camp #38, Sons of Union Vet­er­ans of the Civil War. The cer­e­mony, in its sec­ond year, was held at John G. Lan­caster Park in Lexington Park with sev­eral dig­ni­taries in­clud­ing Lt. Tris­tan En­gle, Patuxent River Naval Air Sta­tion chap­lain, seated at left; Mor­gan Lloyd, aid to Sen. Steve Waugh (R-St. Mary’s, Calvert); Ti­mothy Gowen, Mary­land as­sis­tant ad­ju­tant gen­eral for Army; and Kevin Guy, Patuxent River NAS mas­ter chief. Four men from St. Mary’s County earned the Medal of Honor dur­ing the Civil War: Ben­jamin Swearer, James H. Har­ris, Wil­liam H. Barnes and Joseph B. Hay­den.
