Animal cruelty alleged
A St. Mary’s man wanted on a warrant from animal-cruelty charges issued last spring was taken into custody without incident, police report, when he surrendered at the end of a three-hour standoff Wednesday at a home in Ridge.
Devone Articis Hall, 29, “refused to come out” of the residence located off Route 235, according to a St. Mary’s sheriff’s office release, and “a barricade was declared,” prompting a response by the agency’s Emergency Services Team and negotiators with a Critical Incident Negotiations Team.
The charging papers originally issued last May through a summons allege that Hall intentionally mutilated four pit bull puppies last winter at an address in Mechanicsville, where the illegal cropping of their ears had left them with infections and open sores. The puppies required surgery due to their condition.
