Teen ac­cused of ob­scen­ity of­fense

Ni­cholas Kevin Cum­mins, 19, of Ris­ing Sun was charged this week in St. Mary’s through a sum­mons with the un­law­ful pub­li­ca­tion of ob­scene ma­te­rial, in court pa­pers al­leg­ing that fake so­cial me­dia pro­files of a col­lege stu­dent were posted af­ter she sent the sus­pect a photo of her breast.

Po­lice re­spond­ing early last month to Col­lege Drive at St. Mary’s City and the com­plainant’s dor­mi­tory room were told that she was friends with the sus­pect, and that she shared mul­ti­ple pho­tos with him through so­cial me­dia, in­clud­ing one nude photo, ac­cord­ing to a charges ap­pli­ca­tion filed this week by St. Mary’s sher­iff’s deputy Ger­ard Muschette.

She learned that her photo was be­ing used on a pro­file, and “the vic­tim ad­vised she ob­served the fake pro­files dis­play­ing her full name and pic­tures on Tum­blr and KiK,” the charges ap­pli­ca­tion states, adding that dur­ing po­lice ques­tion­ing, “the de­fen­dant ad­mit­ted to us­ing the vic­tim’s pho­tos on so­cial me­dia, pos­ing as her to so­licit at­ten­tion from other males.”
