Fresno po­lice ask for help in April shoot­ing death of 17-year-old

Fresno po­lice Tues­day is­sued a new plea for help solv­ing the shoot­ing death of a 17-year-old gunned down in April in south­west Fresno.

Lt. David Madri­gal said that De­vote Di­vine has no gang ties and was sim­ply walk­ing home with a friend when shoot­ers in a car killed him on a Sun­day, April 29.

A ShotSpot­ter alert sys­tem recorded 24 shots fired near Cal­i­for­nia and Thorne about 10:23 a.m., and ar­riv­ing of­fi­cers found Devonte near Fresno Street and Cal­i­for­nia.

He had sus­tained mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds and died that night at a hos­pi­tal. Madri­gal said Devonte was shot in the back with a high-cal­iber ri­fle and of­fi­cers also re­cov­ered hand­gun shell cas­ings at the scene.
