Red Cross update

The Garden Island - - Morning Briefing -

HONOLULU — Coralie Chun Matayoshi, CEO of the American Red Cross, Pacific Islands Region, sent the following statement Sunday evening: “40 people are stranded without food or water at Hanalei Elementary School shelter. The Kauai Fire Department has been working with the Coast Guard to air lift them by helicopter to a shelter at Church of the Pacific, but severe weather has prevented this. We are still trying to get food and water air lifted by helicopter when the weather clears. We will also be deploying four Oahu volunteers tomorrow for sheltering, mental health, health services, and government liaison.”

The Red Cross has also been responding to flooding on Oahu.

Matayoshi added that on Sunday, six teams on Oahu conducted additional damage assessment and distributed cleanup kits in Aina Haina, Niu Valley, Kuliouou, Hawaii Kai, Waimanalo and Kailua. ••• The Garden Island
