Chel­tenham school board direc­tors are urg­ing state and fed­eral leg­is­la­tures to change three im­pend­ing pro­gram costs that could cost WKH GLVWrLFW PLl­lLRnV.

At the school boards reg­ulDr PHHWLnJ DHF. 11, WKH GLrec­tors ap­proved three res­o­lu­tions to be sent to state and fed­eral leg­is­la­tion re­gard­ing pen­sion re­form, se­ques­tra­tion, and char­ter and cy­berFKDrWHr VFKRRlV IunGLnJ.

“They have tremen­dous im­pact on our bud­get,” board Pres­i­dent Tina Viletto VDLG.

Viletto pre­sented th­ese three res­o­lu­tions to the board for im­me­di­ate ac­tion so leg­is­la­ture would have them by the end of the year, es­pe­cially be­cause the se­ques­tra­tion prRJrDP ZLll EHJLn -Dn. 2, 2013. SHTuHVWrDWLRn FRPHV un­der the Bud­get Con­trol AFW RI 2011 DnG ZLll FuW $1.2 PLl­lLRn Ln IHGHrDl IunGing for many pro­grams, in­FluGLnJ TLWlH 1 JrDnWV IRr un­der­priv­i­leged chil­dren, the In­di­vid­u­als with Dis­abil­i­ties Ed­u­ca­tion Act, English Lan­guage Ac­qui­si­tion, Ca­reer and Tech­ni­cal Ed­u­ca­tion and 21VW &HnWury &RPPunLWy LHDrnLnJ &HnWHrV.

Viletto said Chel­tenham ex­pects ed­u­ca­tional funds ZLll EH FuW Ey 8.2 pHrFHnW should se­ques­tra­tion be in­sti­tuted, which would re­sult in larger class­room sizes, cuts to ex­tracur­ric­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties, and lay­offs of teach­ers DnG VWDII.

The board also ap­plied to leg­is­la­ture for pen­sion reIRrP. VLlHWWR VDLG pHnVLRnV DrH D VLJnL­fiFDnW IDFWRr Ln each year’s bud­get and each year the per­cent­age given to pen­sions is “as­tro­nom­i­cally LnFrHDVHG.”
