Abington Educational Foundation hosting planning session
Many in the Abington School District care about the schools and the students, and want to see both thrive. In an effort to build a stronger school district, the Abington Educational Foundation will hold a special strategic planning session Jan. 5.
The purpose of the strategic planning event is to assemble school district RIfiFLDOV DnG FRPPunLWy members to discuss ways to “provide supplemental resources that inspire and stimulate student achievement,” according to a letter from the foundation to event participants.
Approximately 60 students, parents, alumni, community leaders, school board members, school administrators and AEF board members are anticipated to attend.
“This is the first time the foundation has incorporated a diverse number of people like this in strategic planning,” Assistant Superintendent Leigh Altadonna said. “We thought it would be an opportune time to see what the foundation could become and garner projects and grants to the foundation for staff and the school district.”
Altadonna said that in the past AEF has been provided small grants to teachers and provided a A100,000 grant to the school district to support technology initiatives.
“At the meeting, we want attendees to give input in the direction we should go as a foundation,” he said.
The event will be held in the Abington School District Administration Building, located at 9T0 Highland Ave., Abington, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During the session, guests will hear presentations from Altadonna, AEF Co-chairwoman Phyllis Jablonowski, Abington Superintendent Amy Sichel and Abington School Board Vice President Jeffrey Bates. The day’s events will be facilitated by the president of Wellbeing Systems Inc., Ray Wells.
During the day, guests will explore topics that focus on the future of the foundation, including an activity titled “What is our Vision of the AEF for 2023?” which will give guests the opportunity to share their individual hopes and goals for AEF. Guests will also be able to discuss ways they want to participate in moving AEF forward in the years to come.
The day will not be all work, attendees will receive a complimentary breakfast and lunch provided by Chartwells and have the opportunity to network with other guests.
