Cheltenham directors recognized
The School District of Cheltenham Township Directors saw an unusual sight when they entered the administration building auditorium for the board’s regular legislative meeting Jan. 8. Each school director had a small bouquet of yellow roses at his or her seat as a sign of appreciation from the administration for School Director Recognition Month.
“Our board members work tirelessly throughout the year,” Superintendent Darlene Davis said. “We are very fortunate in [the school district] to have a board that values education.”
Davis said the board has always been dedicated to education, but has worked even harder to keep the district running smoothly during the tough economic climate. She said without its dedication the district would be even more challenged to continue offering the va- riety of classes available to students. And, she said, directors’ dedication is even more appreciated because it comes without an expectation of compensation.
“They do more than some people do in their actual paid jobs,” Davis said. “It’s not done enough, but we really do want to say thank you.”

“It is often, as many say, a thankless job,” McCarter said to the board. “You give of yourselves in a way few people can understand. I appreciate what you do ... It is something that is truly amazing.”
