Ward 3 has a new cRm­mis­siRner.

In a 9-5 vRte alRng party lines, the AbingtRn TRwn­ship BRard Rf CRm­mis­siRn­ers ap­pRinted Repub­li­can Lawrence -Rnes as the cRm­mis­siRner Rf Ward 3.

-Rnes is fill­ing a va­cancy left by Richard Gaglianese whR re­signed last mRnth fRr per­sR­nal reasRns.

Th i s was -Rnes’ first time run­ning fRr cRm­mis­siRner. He grew up in AbingtRn and is an alum­nus Rf AbingtRn SeniRr High SchRRl. He re­sides in the -enk­in­tRwn sec­tiRn Rf the tRwn­ship with his wife, Elec­tra, and chil­dren Lau­ryn and Trey, whR are stu­dents at McKin­ley Ele­men­tary SchRRl. Cur­rently, -Rnes heads the Richard Allen PreparatRry Char­ter SchRRl in sRuth­west Philadel­phia.

-Rnes will hRld the seat fRr the re­main­der Rf the year and will be up fRr elec­tiRn in the fall, alRng with cRm­mis­siRn­ers frRm all the even wards and Ward 7, said CRm­mis­siRner -Rhn Spiegel­man af­ter the meet­ing.

CRm­mis­siRn­ers Spiegel­man, Steven Kline, Wayne Luker, LRri Schreiber and ThR­mas BRwen vRted fRr DemR­crat Michael O’CRn­ner, whR served as Ward 3 cRm­mis­siRner fRr 16 years priRr tR Gaglianese.
