Schuylkill Valley Community Library hosted its annual Fall Festival on Sept. 23.

Youth Librarian Kelly Jacoby said the library has hosted the event for the past couple of years. The fall festival includes children’s games, fall craft and candy apple making station.

“It’s just something fun to do once school starts back up, a fun event to do on a weekend,” said Jacoby. “It’s a nice family event, for families to do something together. It can kind of be a crazy time of year, kids just went back to school and everything and summer’s over. It’s just a nice day to spend together.”

And maybe also check out some books at the library.

“That’s always the goal, whenever you come to the library,” said Jacoby.

New this year was a visit from a traveling petting zoo, called Zoo to U from Leesport. Jeffrey and Marcy Koppenheffer brought their grandsons Andrew Witman, 8, and Lucas Witman, 5, from Leesport. They brought two mini horses to give children rides and allowed children to pet Guinea pigs, rabbits and goats.

“I think it’s a great thing for kids to come out to ( the Fall Fes- tival),” said Marcy. “Play a little bit, go in and get some books and learn how important it is to read.”

Noting that she is a reader Marcy enjoys supporting the library.

“That’s why we bring the animals because that’s something I enjoy and a lot of kids do, too,” said Marcy.

Leesport mom Crystal Tirell brought her three kids, Paisley, 6; Aspen, 3, and Sage, 13 months, to the Fall Festival.

“This is fun. I really like the

petting zoo this year. We come out every year,” said Tirell. “It’s great just to have something to do on a Saturday that’s free.”
