Rentschler 2nd in golf tourney
Hamburg’s Aly Rentschler finished second in the Berks County Girls Individual Golf Championships on Sept. 25 at Willow Hollow after shooting an 82 and edging Wyomissing’s Kristy Bell in a playoff.
Rentschler, a junior, was bested only by three- time champion Olivia Raihl of Conrad Weiser, who shot an 80. Teammate and Hamburg senior Grace Kutz placed 16th after shooting a 108 while freshman Esther Metcalf placed 24th with a 139.
Exeter junior Alex Seelig won the BCIAA boys’ golf tournament championship on Sept. 27 at Blackwood Golf Course with an even- par 105 over the 27- hole event, besting runner- up Chase Miller of Tulpehocken by two strokes.
Seelig shot a 1- under 69 in the morning session, following by a 1- over 36 in the afternoon on the way to the title.
Other medalists included Berks Catholic’s Nick Fioravante ( third), followed by Oley Valley’s Conner Gollwitzer, Muhlenberg’s Tyler Kipp and Wilson’s Dylan Audi in fourth through sixth.
Seelig finished second in 2016, behind only Wyomissing’ Nate Menon. He became Exeter’s first boys champions since Berks great Chip Lutz’s second title in 1972.
The Gov. Mifflin boys squad won the team championship, narrowly edging Berks Catholic. The Mustangs won their first team title since 2002.
Gov. Mifflin and Berks Catholic shot matching five- player scores of 414 but the Mustangs held the tiebreaker with their sixth golfer shooting a better score.
HAMBURG 7, TULPEHOCKEN 0 » The Hawks moved to 6- 1 in league, 12- 1 overall on the year with their sweep of Tulpehocken on September 25th. Allison Bashore and Breanna Ulrich led the way for Hamburg winning their singles sets with ease.
HAMBURG 3, WILSON 2 » The Hawks were able to pull out a close win over Wilson on September 28th to move their overall record to 13- 1. Breanna Ulrich won her matchup at third singles while the freshman duo of Haley Gravish and Sarah Kramer clinched the win with their victory at second doubles.
HAMBURG 4, CONRAD WEISER 0 » Jacob
Bausher’s hat trick led the Hawks to a win over Conrad Weiser on September 26th. Bryce Berger had a goal to round out the scoring, while goalie, Trevor Fegley had two saves in the shutout.
