Conrad, Halye qualify for state championships in Class 2A
The District 3 Cross Country Championships were held on Oct. 28 at Big Spring High School.
Hamburg senior Wyatt Conrad placed 11th in 17: 00 to qualify for next week’s PIAA Championships. He will be joined in Hershey by junior teammate Levi Halye, who finished in 21st ( 17: 09).
Schuylkill Valley senior Ben Reisenweaver placed eighth ( 16: 49) while York Suburban’s Bryce Ohl won the race in 16: 14, ahead of Wyomissing’s Joe Cullen in second ( 16: 37).
Oley Valley senior Rebecca Snyder placed fourth in 19: 14 while Northern York standout Marlee Starliper ran away with the race, finishing in 17: 25, 55 seconds ahead of the runner- up.
Hamburg freshman Brea Borrell qualified for states by finishing 26th ( 21: 18).
Gov. Mifflin junior Andrea Miller placed fourth in the 3A girls’ race in 19: 08 while leading the Mustangs to a sixth- place team finish. Miller was joined in the top 50 by senior Jessie Taylor ( 12th, 19: 32) and senior Kayla Clark ( 33rd, 20: 09).
Daniel Boone ( 11th) was led by sophomores Vivian Kase ( 47th, 20: 37) and Carlina Davis ( 77th, 21: 14).
Exeter ( 14th) was led by sophomores Katherine Kerchner ( 45th, 20: 32) and Isabella Karstien ( 57th, 20: 44).
Twin Valley placed second in the boys 3A team race, the Raiders’ 152 points trailing only champion Hempfield ( 110).
Twin Valley got top 25 finishes from senior Chase Knorr ( 14th, 16: 36) and senior Garrett Knorr ( 21st, 16: 42) and junior Dylan Servis ( 25th, 16: 45).
Daniel Boone, which placed 18th as a team, was led by sophomore Alex Pingitore ( 18th, 16: 37) and senior Zach Murray ( 30th, 16: 51).
Gov. Mifflin, 21st as a team, had junior Alexander Ermold place 20th ( 16: 42) followed by senior Elias Brower ( 69th, 17: 29).
Mechanicsburg senior Morgan Cupp won the race in 16: 04. Wilson’s Jake Underwood placed seventh ( 16: 24).
The Kutztown boys won the Class 1A team title with freshman Mitchell Brett and junior Michael Hill securing top 10 finishes. Brett placed seventh in 17: 53 and Hill eighth in 18: 11. Also scoring for the Cougars’ 59 team total was sophomore Derek Hanna ( 12th, 18: 28), senior Matt Angstadt ( 15th, 18: 35) and senior Sam Arnold ( 17th, 18: 40).
The Kutztown girls placed a close third behind Camp Hill and York Catholic. Camp Hill came in with 65, York Catholic 67, including race winner Katelyn Macdougall ( 20: 09), while the Cougars scored 94.
Kutztown scoring came from freshman Erika Moriarity ( 7th, 20: 49), senior Robyn Hoch ( 10th, 21: 09), senior Maria Marmarou ( 12th, 21: 28), senior Rachael McCoach ( 18th, 22: 04) and senior Madison Sheetz ( 27th, 23: 24).
