Berks County’s last Civil War Vet­eran, Cap­tain Sa­muel B. Becker, age 95 years, died Christ­mas Eve in his home in Strausstown, af­ter a long ill­ness. The for­mer Moose au­di­to­rium was dec­o­rated with pines and a large Christ­mas tree for a re­cent con­ducted dance con­ducted by mem­bers of the Ju­nior U. S. O. or­ga­ni­za­tion. Forty Five boys from In­diantown Gap and four from Camp Meade, MD, were guests. Mu­sic for danc­ing was fur­nished by Wally Spott’s Or­ches­tra. Dur­ing in­ter­mis­sion, each ser­vice man was pre­sented with a Christ­mas gift. En­sign Robert Schumo ar­rived Christ­mas Eve, from New­found­land, for a two week’s fur­lough with his par­ents Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Schumo, North Fourth Street, Ham­burg. Stamp 27 in War Ra­tion Book No. 1 is good for one pound of cof­fee un­til Jan. 3. Stamp No. 10 will be good for 3 pounds of sugar un­til Jan. 31. “Black Swan” star­ring Ty­rone Power and Mau­reen O’Hare will be fea­tured at the Ham­burg Strand on Jan. 2.
