Berks Catholic reaches 4A final
The Berks Catholic girls basketball team reached the PIAA championship game in Class 4A with a 56-47 win over Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic on March 24 at State College High School.
The senior threesome of Dejah Terrell, Molly Duncan and Abby Gaffney came up big down the stretch to deny the District 7 champions and advance the Saints (25-5) to the state final where they will play Lancaster Catholic at noon Wednesday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Berks Catholic came back from six down in the final quarter with Terrell (13 points), Duncan (4-for-4 3-pointers, 18 points) and Gaffney (9) scoring 19 of the team’s 22 fourthquarter points including going 11 of 13 at the foul line down the stretch. Jackie Kirwin scored 11.
Berks Catholic got over the semifinal hump for the first time in its third Final Four trip in four seasons.
The championship game is a rematch of the District 3 final, which Lancaster Catholic (31-0) won 58-47 on March 1.
