Berks Catholic reaches 4A fi­nal

The Berks Catholic girls bas­ket­ball team reached the PIAA cham­pi­onship game in Class 4A with a 56-47 win over Car­di­nal Wuerl North Catholic on March 24 at State Col­lege High School.

The se­nior three­some of De­jah Ter­rell, Molly Dun­can and Abby Gaffney came up big down the stretch to deny the District 7 cham­pi­ons and ad­vance the Saints (25-5) to the state fi­nal where they will play Lan­caster Catholic at noon Wed­nes­day at the Gi­ant Cen­ter in Her­shey.

Berks Catholic came back from six down in the fi­nal quar­ter with Ter­rell (13 points), Dun­can (4-for-4 3-point­ers, 18 points) and Gaffney (9) scor­ing 19 of the team’s 22 fourthquar­ter points in­clud­ing go­ing 11 of 13 at the foul line down the stretch. Jackie Kir­win scored 11.

Berks Catholic got over the semi­fi­nal hump for the first time in its third Fi­nal Four trip in four sea­sons.

The cham­pi­onship game is a re­match of the District 3 fi­nal, which Lan­caster Catholic (31-0) won 58-47 on March 1.
