Stephen Paranac, 90, of Providence Place, Drums, formerly of Oakdale, died Wednesday in Lehigh Valley HospitalHazleton. He was born in Oakdale son of the late John & Susan (Bartko) Paranac. He was a member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, where he was active with the pierogi workers of the parish. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the AsiaticPacific Theater of War with the 391st Engineering Depot Company, attaining the rank of technician fourth grade. Prior to retiring, he was employed by General Foam.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Michael, John, Joseph, George, Mary Paranac, Helen Bicking, Susan Koehler, Ann Weber, Margaret Weber and Elizabeth Sullivan.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton.
Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s B.C. Church, Hazleton.
Interment will be held in St. Mary’s B.C. Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the funeral.
