Freeland Community Choir will present encore of cantata Sunday
The Freeland Community Choir will present its Christmas cantata Sunday at 3 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, 21 Faith Drive, off Airport Beltway.
This year’s cantata, “Invitation To A Miracle,” was written by Joseph M. Martin. The choir is under the direction of Jacque Wetzel and accompanied by Janet Hartman. The Rev. Mark Whitmer and Millini Skuba are narrators.
The cantata begins with, Janet Hartman playing “Invitation To A Miracle — Overture.” The choir will then sing the following songs from the cantata:
“A Processional of Hope,” followed by “Joy Arising,” “Your Light Has Come,” “My Soul Rejoices in the Lord” with Dawn Hydock as the soloist, and “A Celtic Carol,” featuring Jeanette Irwin, Karen Prussock, Robyn Trexler and Denise Wetzel singing the descant.
The cantata continues with, “Alleluia! Christ Is Born!,” “Would I Miss the Miracle?” and the final number, “A Gloria Gathering,” with Joan Pesta as soloist and the descant being sung by Jeanette Irwin, Karen Prussock, Robyn Trexler and Denise Wetzel. During the offering, trumpeter Frank Balon will play, “Silent Night with Night of Silence,” accompanied by Janet Hartman on the piano.

The program will end with the choir singing Leonard Cohen’s, “Hallelujah,” using special Christmas lyrics for the song, and the audience singing, “Joy to the World.” Members of the choir include: Soprano — Mary Beth Billig, Roberta Brandreth, Maryann Hines, Jennifer Hollinger, Alice Hreben, Dawn Hydock, Jeanette Irwin, Suzanne Johnson, JoAnne Korol, Alice Landers, Joan Leandri, Grace Motto, Veronica Olshefski, Betty Porpiglia, Karen Prussock, Mary Ribarchik, Elsie Schultz, Linda Tier, Robyn Trexler, Denise Wetzel and Arlene Yefchak.

The program is open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken for the purchase of music for future programs by the choir.
