Mountain Valley Seniors
Jake Scheaffer’s low gross round of 78 topped a field of 85 golfers at Tuesday’s Mountain Valley Senior Golf League play.
Low net flight winners and runners-up for the week were:
Flight A - Gar y Petritsch (69) and Joe Wozney (70); Flight B - Mar ty Stark (68) and Ed Sobol (69); Flight C - Joe Zarko (67) and Ray O’Har t (68); Flight D - Jim Harris (68) and Jack Madden (71), Flight E - Jim Dunn (72) and Bob Nestor (73).
Winners of the closest-to-the-pin contest on the par-3s were Jim Hauze (No. 3), Tom Pacine (No. 8), Wally Palubinsky (No. 12) and Leo Banning (No. 14).
Closest-to-the-pin, second shot winners were Butch Kehler (No. 1), Joe Chiaretti (No. 5), Bob Killian (Nos. 6 and 18), Joe Blickley (No. 7), Bob Price (No. 10) and Marty Stark (No. 13).
In the flight accuracy line contest on No. 17, the winners were Jerr y Kilker (Flight A), Al Sands (B), Ray O’Hart (C), Bob Pitts (D) and Bob Kulpowitz (E).
The team of Carol Drewniak, Judy Haber and Debbie Walko registered a 61 to win the best ball event at Tuesday’s Valley Countr y Club Women’s Golf Association outing. Haber also recorded a birdie on No. 5.
Ladies should be in their carts at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Ladies are reminded that the end of the year awards banquet will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 at Sugarloaf. Reservations need to be returned before Oct. 9.
The team of Georgia Nause, Joan Piccininno, Donna Palermo and Nancy Donadi captured first place in the league’s year-end tournament. Piccininno had a chip-in on Hole No. 15.
Mar y Perchak, Diane Shedden, Carol Toslosky and Sandra DeAndrea combined to finish runnerup.
Janet Kresge swept all the game holes: longest drive on Holes No. 2 and 13 and closest to the pin on Holes No. 7 and 11.
A golf tournament to benefit Austin Kinney’s recovery will be held Sunday, Oct. 1 at Sugarloaf Golf Club. The former Hazleton Area High School student was seriously injured in an accident in June.
The four-person scramble features a noon start. The cost is $90 per player or $360 per foursome.

Booster club tourney
The 36th annual West Hazleton Booster Club Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 22 at Edge wood by Sand Springs Golf Course. The fourperson scramble features a 9 a.m. shotgun start, with check in no later than 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee of $70 per golfer ($280 per foursome) includes green fees, car t, food, refreshments and door prizes. Mulligans will be offered from the tees, and skins (optional) are $20 per foursome. Contests include closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt on designated holes. Post-tournament activities will be held at Edgewood immediately following golf, and will include an Italianstyle buffet dinner and an awards ceremony, with first-, second- and third-place finishers honored.
