Moun­tain Val­ley Se­niors

Jake Scheaf­fer’s low gross round of 78 topped a field of 85 golfers at Tues­day’s Moun­tain Val­ley Se­nior Golf League play.

Low net flight win­ners and run­ners-up for the week were:

Flight A - Gar y Petritsch (69) and Joe Wozney (70); Flight B - Mar ty Stark (68) and Ed Sobol (69); Flight C - Joe Zarko (67) and Ray O’Har t (68); Flight D - Jim Har­ris (68) and Jack Mad­den (71), Flight E - Jim Dunn (72) and Bob Nestor (73).

Win­ners of the clos­est-to-the-pin con­test on the par-3s were Jim Hauze (No. 3), Tom Pacine (No. 8), Wally Palu­bin­sky (No. 12) and Leo Ban­ning (No. 14).

Clos­est-to-the-pin, sec­ond shot win­ners were Butch Kehler (No. 1), Joe Chiaretti (No. 5), Bob Kil­lian (Nos. 6 and 18), Joe Blick­ley (No. 7), Bob Price (No. 10) and Marty Stark (No. 13).

In the flight ac­cu­racy line con­test on No. 17, the win­ners were Jerr y Kilker (Flight A), Al Sands (B), Ray O’Hart (C), Bob Pitts (D) and Bob Kulpowitz (E).

VCC Ladies

The team of Carol Drew­niak, Judy Haber and Deb­bie Walko reg­is­tered a 61 to win the best ball event at Tues­day’s Val­ley Countr y Club Women’s Golf As­so­ci­a­tion out­ing. Haber also recorded a birdie on No. 5.

Ladies should be in their carts at 9:15 a.m. Tues­day.


The fi­nal weekly re­sults from the Su­garbabes Golf League at Su­gar­loaf Golf Course are as fol­lows:

Flight A - Jane Med­vecky (46), Squeen Denke (low net); Flight B - Deb Walko (50), Shirley Ikeda (low net); Flight C - Mary Wal­ters (49), Nina Lau­ri­cella (low net); Flight D - Con­nie Pic­colo (56), Sandy Culp (low net).

Ladies are re­minded that the end of the year awards ban­quet will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 at Su­gar­loaf. Reser­va­tions need to be re­turned be­fore Oct. 9.

Edge­wood Ladies

The team of Ge­or­gia Nause, Joan Pic­cininno, Donna Palermo and Nancy Donadi cap­tured first place in the league’s year-end tour­na­ment. Pic­cininno had a chip-in on Hole No. 15.

Mar y Per­chak, Diane Shed­den, Carol Toslosky and San­dra DeAn­drea com­bined to fin­ish run­nerup.

Janet Kresge swept all the game holes: long­est drive on Holes No. 2 and 13 and clos­est to the pin on Holes No. 7 and 11.

Kin­ney ben­e­fit

A golf tour­na­ment to ben­e­fit Austin Kin­ney’s re­cov­ery will be held Sun­day, Oct. 1 at Su­gar­loaf Golf Club. The for­mer Ha­zle­ton Area High School stu­dent was se­ri­ously in­jured in an ac­ci­dent in June.

The four-per­son scram­ble fea­tures a noon start. The cost is $90 per player or $360 per four­some.

Booster club tour­ney

The 36th an­nual West Ha­zle­ton Booster Club Golf Tour­na­ment will be held Sun­day, Oct. 22 at Edge wood by Sand Springs Golf Course. The fourper­son scram­ble fea­tures a 9 a.m. shot­gun start, with check in no later than 8:30 a.m.

The en­try fee of $70 per golfer ($280 per four­some) in­cludes green fees, car t, food, re­fresh­ments and door prizes. Mul­li­gans will be of­fered from the tees, and skins (op­tional) are $20 per four­some. Con­tests in­clude clos­est to the pin, long­est drive and long­est putt on des­ig­nated holes. Post-tour­na­ment ac­tiv­i­ties will be held at Edge­wood im­me­di­ately fol­low­ing golf, and will in­clude an Ital­ianstyle buf­fet din­ner and an awards cer­e­mony, with first-, sec­ond- and third-place fin­ish­ers hon­ored.
