Man ac­cused of assault, threats

A Packer Twp. man is ac­cused in an assault that in­jured two people Mon­day night, court pa­pers say.

State po­lice at Ha­zle­ton said they were called to an ac­tive do­mes­tic dispute at 45 Oak Hill Road around 11:40 p.m. and found Wil­liam P. Hether­ing­ton, 59, asleep on the floor in­tox­i­cated when they ar­rived around mid­night. He was taken to Le­high Val­ley Hospi­talHa­zle­ton due to his in­tox­i­cated state.

Ar­rest pa­pers state dur­ing the assault, Hether­ing­ton hit a male vic­tim in the fore­head with a wooden chair and placed him in a choke hold un­til the vic­tim lost con­scious­ness. He also punched a fe­male vic­tim in the face when she in­ter­vened, court pa­pers state.

Hether­ing­ton also threat­ened to dump gaso­line in the house and burn it down and that he would cut the male vic­tim’s throat and have var­i­ous out­law mo­tor­cy­cle gang mem­bers assault or kill the man, court pa­pers state.

He faces charges of ag­gra­vated assault, stran­gu­la­tion and two counts each ter­ror­is­tic threats, sim­ple assault, dis­or­derly con­duct and ha­rass­ment and was ar­raigned Tues­day by Mag­is­te­rial District Judge Joseph Ho­manko, Weatherly, who set bail at $10,000. Im­me­di­ately un­able to post the money, he was taken to jail.
