Man accused of assault, threats
A Packer Twp. man is accused in an assault that injured two people Monday night, court papers say.
State police at Hazleton said they were called to an active domestic dispute at 45 Oak Hill Road around 11:40 p.m. and found William P. Hetherington, 59, asleep on the floor intoxicated when they arrived around midnight. He was taken to Lehigh Valley HospitalHazleton due to his intoxicated state.
Arrest papers state during the assault, Hetherington hit a male victim in the forehead with a wooden chair and placed him in a choke hold until the victim lost consciousness. He also punched a female victim in the face when she intervened, court papers state.
Hetherington also threatened to dump gasoline in the house and burn it down and that he would cut the male victim’s throat and have various outlaw motorcycle gang members assault or kill the man, court papers state.
He faces charges of aggravated assault, strangulation and two counts each terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment and was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko, Weatherly, who set bail at $10,000. Immediately unable to post the money, he was taken to jail.
