Man linked to rob­ber y with knife

A 29-year-old Ha­zle­ton man faces charges by city po­lice after a May 27 rob­bery.

Daniel Smith, 29, was charged with false im­pris­on­ment, con­spir­acy at rob­bery, rob­bery, theft, con­spir­acy at theft and sim­ple assault for his al­leged role in the crime. The charges were filed against him June 2 and he was re­leased on $50,000 un­se­cured bail when ar­raigned Wed­nes­day by Mag­is­te­rial District Judge Daniel O’Don­nell, Su­gar­loaf Twp.

Ar­rest pa­pers state the vic­tim was or­dered to his car at knife­point by Smith from a home on Lo­cust Street with his 7-year-old around 1 a.m. and was driven to 633 McKin­ley St., where he said $1,000 in cash was taken from him.

The vic­tim said he was beaten and the two men in­volved, one of them Smith, at­tempted to take his car, too, court pa­pers state.
