Man linked to robber y with knife
A 29-year-old Hazleton man faces charges by city police after a May 27 robbery.
Daniel Smith, 29, was charged with false imprisonment, conspiracy at robbery, robbery, theft, conspiracy at theft and simple assault for his alleged role in the crime. The charges were filed against him June 2 and he was released on $50,000 unsecured bail when arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Daniel O’Donnell, Sugarloaf Twp.
Arrest papers state the victim was ordered to his car at knifepoint by Smith from a home on Locust Street with his 7-year-old around 1 a.m. and was driven to 633 McKinley St., where he said $1,000 in cash was taken from him.
The victim said he was beaten and the two men involved, one of them Smith, attempted to take his car, too, court papers state.
