Sweet tooth leads to charges

An Au­gust candy heist at a Ta­maqua store re­sulted in two fac­ing charges.

Jes­sica L. Wen­rich, 27, Ash­land, was charged with use or pos­ses­sion of drug para­pher­na­lia and re­tail theft by Ta­maqua po­lice while Bran­dyn T. Spece, 27, Pottsville, was cited for a sum­mary count of re­tail theft. The charges were filed Sept. 25 and is­sued via sum­mons.

Ar­rest pa­pers state Wen­rich had a nee­dle and spoon in her wal­let and sev­eral packs of candy and a bot­tle of soda in her purse when po­lice stopped her out­side Fe­g­ley’s Mini Mart, 30-32 Cen­ter St., Aug. 14 around 2:15 a.m. while in­ves­ti­gat­ing a theft from the busi­ness. She later ad­mit­ted to steal­ing the items, along with two over­the-counter med­i­ca­tions to­tal­ing $27.98.

Spece had one pack of candy in his pocket, po­lice wrote.
