■ Holy Rosary Parish, 240 S. Poplar St., Hazleton, will host a free community luncheon Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon in the community room of the church, located in the lower level.
Those attending are asked to use the elevator entrance in the rear of the church. All are welcome.

■ Hazleton Community Church, 400 E. 22nd St., Hazleton, will hold a fall festival Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
There will bea chili cookoff and horseshoe tournament. Registration for the chili cook-off and horseshoe tournament begin sat 5:30 p.m. with dinner following at 6 p.m.
There will be fun games for the children as well. Everyone is welcome.
■ St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sixth and Vine streets, Hazleton, invites the community to its Holy Communion service Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Rev. Joseph Leech will preach on “Will you come to the Lord’s Wedding Feast or will you reject it?”
Leech will also have a message for the children. Those serving are Don Roeg ge, communion assistant; Carrie Drasher, lector; and Jolene Evancho and Chuck Zschunke, altar guild.
St. John’s also announced the launching of St. John’s Community Church the first Saturday of every month at 6 p.m. A contemporary service will be held with communion.
Sunday school and adult Bible class will start at 10:15 a.m. after a brief coffee break. During the month of October, the adult Bible class is concentrating on the Reformation.
The free community luncheon will be served Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to noon. Thrivent is sponsor of the luncheon. All are welcome.
St. John’ s is collecting donations for victim of the recent hurricanes. Checks can be made out to the church, indicating hurricane relief in the memo line, and mailed to the church.
On Oct. 29, St. John’s will observe and celebrate the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation. After Sunday school and Bible class, the congregation will have a special covered-dish luncheon.
The youth of the congregation will meet Nov. 5 at 12:15 p.m. at the pastor’s home.
St. John’s is handicapped accessible. All are welcome.
■ St. John’s Methodist Church, Poplar and Juniper streets, will hold a homemade apple dumpling sale Oct. 24.
Cost is $4 each with pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
