■ Holy Rosary Parish, 240 S. Po­plar St., Ha­zle­ton, will host a free com­mu­nity lun­cheon Satur­day from 11 a.m. to noon in the com­mu­nity room of the church, lo­cated in the lower level.

Those at­tend­ing are asked to use the el­e­va­tor en­trance in the rear of the church. All are wel­come.

A spe­cial thank you to the Ha­zle­ton Ro­tary Club, the Dio­cese of Scran­ton and the Wein­berg NE Re­gional Food Bank.

■ Ha­zle­ton Com­mu­nity Church, 400 E. 22nd St., Ha­zle­ton, will hold a fall fes­ti­val Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.

There will bea chili cookoff and horse­shoe tour­na­ment. Regis­tra­tion for the chili cook-off and horse­shoe tour­na­ment be­gin sat 5:30 p.m. with din­ner fol­low­ing at 6 p.m.

There will be fun games for the chil­dren as well. Ev­ery­one is wel­come.

■ St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sixth and Vine streets, Ha­zle­ton, in­vites the com­mu­nity to its Holy Com­mu­nion ser­vice Sun­day at 9 a.m.

The Rev. Joseph Leech will preach on “Will you come to the Lord’s Wed­ding Feast or will you re­ject it?”

Leech will also have a mes­sage for the chil­dren. Those serv­ing are Don Roeg ge, com­mu­nion as­sis­tant; Car­rie Drasher, lec­tor; and Jo­lene Evan­cho and Chuck Zschunke, al­tar guild.

St. John’s also an­nounced the launch­ing of St. John’s Com­mu­nity Church the first Satur­day of ev­ery month at 6 p.m. A con­tem­po­rary ser­vice will be held with com­mu­nion.

Sun­day school and adult Bi­ble class will start at 10:15 a.m. af­ter a brief cof­fee break. Dur­ing the month of Oc­to­ber, the adult Bi­ble class is con­cen­trat­ing on the Re­for­ma­tion.

The free com­mu­nity lun­cheon will be served Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to noon. Thrivent is spon­sor of the lun­cheon. All are wel­come.

St. John’ s is col­lect­ing do­na­tions for vic­tim of the re­cent hur­ri­canes. Checks can be made out to the church, in­di­cat­ing hur­ri­cane re­lief in the memo line, and mailed to the church.

On Oct. 29, St. John’s will ob­serve and cel­e­brate the 500 th an­niver­sary of the Re­for­ma­tion. Af­ter Sun­day school and Bi­ble class, the con­gre­ga­tion will have a spe­cial cov­ered-dish lun­cheon.

The youth of the con­gre­ga­tion will meet Nov. 5 at 12:15 p.m. at the pas­tor’s home.

St. John’s is hand­i­capped ac­ces­si­ble. All are wel­come.

■ St. John’s Methodist Church, Po­plar and Ju­niper streets, will hold a home­made ap­ple dumpling sale Oct. 24.

Cost is $4 each with pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
