Marlene A. Wasno, 77, of McA­doo passed away Tues­day in Le­high Val­ley Hospi­tal, Al­len­town.

Born in McA­doo, she was the daugh­ter of the late Stephen and Mary (French) Katch­mer.

Marlene was a proud mem­ber of the McA­doo High School Alumni As­so­ci­a­tion, where she served as trea­surer, and a grad­u­ate of the Ha­zle­ton State Gen­eral Hospi­tal School of Nurs­ing.

Prior to re­tir­ing, she was a long­time reg­is­tered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospi­tal, Ha­zle­ton. Her nurs­ing ca­reer blos­somed through her and through­out her life and she never looked back.

Marlene was very ac­tive in her com­mu­nity and al­ways will­ing to vol­un­teer. As a mem­ber of the McA­doo High School Alumni As­so­ci­a­tion, Prime Timers Club, Church of All Saints of McA­doo, and vol­un­teer­ing at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, McA­doo, Ha­zle­ton YMCA, and the Amer­i­can Red Cross Blood­mo­bile, she man­aged to keep busy at all times. She was de­voted to her fam­ily, neigh­bors and friends and al­ways will­ing to lend a help­ing hand.

As a lov­ing wife, mother, grand­mother, sis­ter and friend, she will be sadly missed by all.

Pre­ced­ing her in death was her hus­band, Robert J. Wasno.

Sur­viv­ing are her daugh­ters, Theresa Was no, RN, Al­len­town; Dr. Michelle Wasno, DMD, Al­len­town; and Denise Kelly, RN, and her long­time com­pan­ion, Don Smith, McA­doo; grand­daugh­ter, Sab­rina Kelly, Quaker town; sis­ter, Joyce Katch­mer, Queens, N.Y.; and cousins from the Slovik fam­ily of McA­doo, the Fog­a­rty fam­ily of Schuylkill Haven and the Taraba fam­ily of Ohio.

Her funeral will be held Satur­day at 9:30 a.m. from Dami­ano Funeral Home Inc., Blaine and Cleve­land streets, McA­doo.

The Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated at 10 a.m. in Church of All Saints, McA­doo. Mon­signor Wil­liam Baker will be the cel­e­brant.

In­ter­ment will fol­low in St. Mary of the As­sump­tion Ceme­tery, McA­doo.

Call­ing hours will be held to­day from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marlene’s fam­ily would like to ex­press a heart felt thank you to all her friends and neigh­bors who made her life com­plete.
