City cou­ple face food stamp fraud

A Ha­zle­ton cou­ple face charges for ob­tain­ing food stamps or pub­lic as­sis­tance fraud­u­lently, ac­cord­ing to a crim­i­nal com­plaint filed by the state Of­fice of In­spec­tor Gen­eral.

Brigida and Fran­cisco Ti­neo of North Lau­rel Street are charged with false state­ments for re­port­ing no ad­di­tional house­hold in­come while re­ceiv­ing pub­lic as­sis­tance. They ap­plied for as­sis­tance in Septem­ber 2016 and Fran­cisco Ti­neo be­gan re­ceiv­ing long-term dis­abil­ity from Au­toZone in Oc­to­ber 2016 and con­tin­u­ing, court pa­pers said.

The cou­ple al­legedly failed to re­port the ad­di­tional in­come and ob­tained $2,730.33 in cash as­sis­tance.
