BUTLER TWP. — A Wednesday evening fire caused substantial damage to a house at 431 E. Butler Drive.

Residents were able to safely flee with their pets. One dog was placed inside a vehicle that had been moved from the home’s attached garage.

The blaze was discovered around 6:30 p.m. and brought fire personnel from several local departments. Close to 20 emergency vehicles were parked outside the home.

Although responders had most of the flames extinguished shortly after arrival, a rear portion of the home and an attached deck were completely destroyed.

With no hydrants in the immediate area, crews set up a portable water tank along Butler Drive.

Valley Regional, Dennison Twp., Hazle Twp., Sugarloaf Twp., Harwood, Freeland and Foster Twp. fire personnel responded. Freeland police helped direct traffic around the scene.
