W. Hazleton man waives child porn preliminar y hearing
A West Hazleton man on probation after pleading guilty to child pornography charges waived his right to a preliminary hearing on new child pornography charges before Magisterial District Judge James M. Dixon.
Michael Anthony Portanova, 26, of 325 Ridge Ave., is facing felony counts of possessing child porn and criminal use of a communication facility after police say they found 63 videos on a memory card from his cellphone, including numerous videos of children performing sex acts.
According to an affidavit filed by Luzerne County Detective Charles Balogh, probation officers contacted investigators in October to report Portanova had failed a lie-detector test when asked if he was looking at child porn.
Portanova admitted to state police he started using his cellphone to download and view child pornography again because he was stressed, the affidavit states.
