Cases han­dled

The fol­low­ing cases were han­dled in lo­cal mag­is­te­rial dis­trict courts, ac­cord­ing to court records:

■ Charges for driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence and two sum­mary vi­o­la­tions filed against Iniverto Ve­lazquez, 24, Hazleton, by state po­lice at Hazleton, were dismissed by Mag­is­te­rial Dis­trict Judge Thomas Mal­loy Sr. on July 30. Ve­lazquez was charged fol­low­ing a July 21 traf­fic stop in the area of West Broad and Church streets. Charges for pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance and pos­ses­sion of an of­fen­sive weapon filed against his pas­sen­ger, Leo M. Her­nan­dez, 24, Ta­maqua, were also dismissed that day by Mal­loy.

■ Charges of sim­ple as­sault, child en­dan­ger­ment, ha­rass­ment and crim­i­nal mis­chief filed against Maria M. Tav­eraz, 25, West Hazleton, by Hazleton po­lice af­ter a May 18 in­ci­dent at the rear of 575 N. James St., were with­drawn by of­fi­cers Mon­day.

■ Stephanie Peguero, 26, of West Hazleton, pleaded guilty Wed­nes­day to a count of sim­ple as­sault filed against her by West Hazleton po­lice af­ter a July 25 stab­bing on Win­ters Av­enue be­tween Wayne and War­ren streets. Other charges for ag­gra­vated as­sault, reck­less en­dan­ger­ment and tam­per­ing with ev­i­dence were with­drawn by po­lice. She was or­dered to pay $172.25 by Mag­is­te­rial Dis­trict Judge Alexan­dra Kokura Kravitz, Pittston.
