Al­lan Tal­mage Preyer III, 65, of Chapel Hill, died Novem­ber 6, 2018, sur­rounded by his fam­ily. Al­lan was born May 21, 1953, in Greens­boro, North Carolina. He was the son of Al­lan Tal­mage Preyer, Jr. and Mar­garet Glenn Preyer. A Tar Heel “born and bred”, Al­lan grew up in Greens­boro and Durham. Fol­low­ing his grand­fa­ther and father, Al­lan grad­u­ated from Wood­berry For­est School in Orange, Vir­ginia, where he ex­celled aca­dem­i­cally and ath­let­i­cally, as an out­stand­ing lacrosse player. Al­lan grad­u­ated from The Univer­sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975. At UNC, Al­lan was a mem­ber of Delta Kappa Ep­silon and served as pres­i­dent of the fra­ter­nity his se­nior year.

Af­ter grad­u­a­tion, Al­lan be­gan a suc­cess­ful ca­reer with Burling­ton In­dus­tries in New York and Greens­boro. Af­ter Burling­ton, Al­lan had a long ca­reer as an ac­com­plished sales and mar­ket­ing ex­ec­u­tive, and re­cently as a free-lance writer.

Al­lan was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, and his sis­ter Kather­ine Preyer DeMat­teo. He is sur­vived by his wife of twenty-two years, Pa­tri­cia Curlee Preyer, and his chil­dren, Jac­que­line Glenn Preyer and Al­lan Tal­mage Preyer IV. Al­lan was a strong, de­voted and lov­ing father who was enor­mously proud of his chil­dren’s char­ac­ter and ac­com­plish­ments. Al­lan is also sur­vived by his brother, John Peter Preyer, of Chapel Hill, his wife, Joanie, his niece, Lacy, and nephew, Pike.

Al­lan will al­ways be re­mem­bered by his fam­ily and friends for his bril­liant wit, sense of hu­mor, and in­tel­lect. His kind­ness, gen­er­ous spirit and strong so­cial con­science will be missed by ev­ery­one who knew Al­lan.

A cel­e­bra­tion of Al­lan’s life will be held Satur­day, Novem­ber 10 at 2:00 PMat Univer­sity Pres­by­te­rian Church, 209 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, with the Rev­erend Mar­garet LaMotte Tor­rence of­fi­ci­at­ing.
