How Can Com­pa­nies Re­duce Bias in the Hir­ing Process

Re­search shows that the hir­ing process is bi­ased and un­fair. Un­con­scious sex­ism, ageism, and racism play a mon­u­men­tal role in whom we hire. There are steps you can take to rec­og­nize and re­duce th­ese bi­ases. Where do you start? How can you help your or­ga­ni­za­tion do the same?

Un­con­scious bi­ases cause us to make de­ci­sions in fa­vor of one per­son or group to the loss of oth­ers. In the work­place, this can un­der­mine di­ver­sity, re­cruit­ing and re­ten­tion ef­forts. Bi­ases can also shape a com­pany’s cul­ture and norms. HR Man­agers and Hir­ing Man­agers have to learn to de-bias their re­cruit­ment pro­cesses.
