No. 3 Notre Dame to start quarterback Wimbush over ailing Book
No. 3 Notre Dame will start quarterback Brandon Wimbush against Florida State on Saturday for Ian Book, who is nursing an undisclosed injury, two people familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.
Book is not expected to play after taking a hard hit to the back and ribs last week against Northwestern, according to the people who spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because no official announcement was made.
Book replaced Wimbush as the starter in the fourth game of the season for the Fighting Irish (9-0, No. 3 CFP). He is completing 74.5 percent of his passes, tops in the FBS, for 1,824 yards, with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. With Book starting, the Fighting Irish have averaged 38 points per game. They averaged 23.3 in Wimbush’s three starts. Freshman Bryson Williams will take over full time as the starter.
Auburn: WR Ryan Davis is just one catch away from becoming the Tigers’ career leader with receptions. His 152 catches are topped only by Courtney Taylor, who played from 2003-06. Boise State: Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien needs 36 yards passing to become the Mountain West career leader through the air. Rypien has 12,655 yards passing, trailing only San Diego State’s Ryan Lindley on the conference all-time list. Rypien also needs just five completions to pass Lindley for the most completed passes in conference history. Rypien has 957.
Miami: After a loss to Duke last Saturday that marked the Hurricanes’ third straight defeat, Miami coach Mark Richt is going to start redshirt freshman quarterback N’Kosi Perry against Georgia Tech this Saturday. Perry has played in seven of nine games this season and has started in three of them.
Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush looks to throw against Vanderbilt on Sept. 15. Two people familiar with the decision say the Irish will start Wimbush against Florida State on Saturday for Ian Book, who is nursing an undisclosed injury.
