To the world — tonight our fam­ily lost its Leader, our dad, Richard Lee Ben­nett, from Mardela Springs, MD.

GM of Prince Ge­orges Con­trac­tors and other asphalt com­pa­nies. He started work in the asphalt busi­ness af­ter serv­ing in the U.S. Air Force as a cam­era re­pair­man. “Dick” Ben­nett went to DC to work, where he ran the wa­ter truck on the week­ends. From there he rose through the ranks to co-own PG Con­trac­tors.

Our dad gave to God and re­ceived more than he ever could use. Dad was a Chris­tian man loved by all who ever crossed his path. He gave to all who were in need, giv­ing of his money and his time. Born June 12, 1936, he de­parted this world at 8:55 p.m. on May 18, 2017.

He was pre­de­ceased by his fa­ther, mother, brother and brother in law: Carl Ed­ward Ben­nett; Eva (Tay­lor) Ben­nett;Carl “Bunk” Ed­ward Ben­nett Jr.; Ken­ney Cooper.

Dick has left be­hind his wife, Mary Ellen (Davis) Ben­nett; sons: Mitchell Giove (wife Joann); Don Allen Ben­nett (wife Anita); Richard L. Ben­nett II (wife Bar­bara); Ed­ward C. Ben­nett (wife Heather); and daugh­ter, Gomey Legesse Ben­nett; de­ceased son, Earl Giove (wife Beth); grand kids: Lynn Har­ring­ton; Laura McLar­ney; Joseph Crile; Me­gan Ben­nett; Dal­las A. Ben­nett; Mary Ellen Stray­horn; Ariel Giove; Joshua Giove; Lynn Kilker; Brandi Kilker; Cur­tis Ben­nett; Sum­mer Ben­nett; Chloe Ben­nett; Kate­lyn Ben­nett; David Giove and Lau­ren Giove; along with numer­ous great grand kids. He also leaves be­hind his sis­ter, Mary Lou Cov­ing­ton and her fam­ily; sis­ter-in-law, Nell “Snookie” Ben­nett and her fam­ily.

He will be missed and for­ever loved by fam­ily, in­clud­ing a num­ber of church fam­i­lies among which are Largo Com­mu­nity Church and Wye Bi­ble Church.

Lord, you have taken our fa­ther home to meet his Fa­ther, one even more faith­ful than our own. Bless those left be­hind to live out our lives hon­or­ing the legacy of our fa­ther know­ing You will unite all Chris­tians in time.

A “Life Cel­e­bra­tion” will be held at Wye Bi­ble Church, 115 Nar­nia D., Gra­sonville, MD 21638 on Satur­day, June 17, at 11 a.m.
