Richard Lee Bennett
To the world — tonight our family lost its Leader, our dad, Richard Lee Bennett, from Mardela Springs, MD.
GM of Prince Georges Contractors and other asphalt companies. He started work in the asphalt business after serving in the U.S. Air Force as a camera repairman. “Dick” Bennett went to DC to work, where he ran the water truck on the weekends. From there he rose through the ranks to co-own PG Contractors.
Our dad gave to God and received more than he ever could use. Dad was a Christian man loved by all who ever crossed his path. He gave to all who were in need, giving of his money and his time. Born June 12, 1936, he departed this world at 8:55 p.m. on May 18, 2017.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, brother and brother in law: Carl Edward Bennett; Eva (Taylor) Bennett;Carl “Bunk” Edward Bennett Jr.; Kenney Cooper.
Dick has left behind his wife, Mary Ellen (Davis) Bennett; sons: Mitchell Giove (wife Joann); Don Allen Bennett (wife Anita); Richard L. Bennett II (wife Barbara); Edward C. Bennett (wife Heather); and daughter, Gomey Legesse Bennett; deceased son, Earl Giove (wife Beth); grand kids: Lynn Harrington; Laura McLarney; Joseph Crile; Megan Bennett; Dallas A. Bennett; Mary Ellen Strayhorn; Ariel Giove; Joshua Giove; Lynn Kilker; Brandi Kilker; Curtis Bennett; Summer Bennett; Chloe Bennett; Katelyn Bennett; David Giove and Lauren Giove; along with numerous great grand kids. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Lou Covington and her family; sister-in-law, Nell “Snookie” Bennett and her family.
He will be missed and forever loved by family, including a number of church families among which are Largo Community Church and Wye Bible Church.
Lord, you have taken our father home to meet his Father, one even more faithful than our own. Bless those left behind to live out our lives honoring the legacy of our father knowing You will unite all Christians in time.
A “Life Celebration” will be held at Wye Bible Church, 115 Narnia D., Grasonville, MD 21638 on Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wye Bible Church.
