GVFD hosts annual golf tournament
GRASONVILLE — Dark clouds and early morning rain may have dampened the grounds of Prospect Bay Country Club on Monday morning, but that didn’t stop Grasonville Volunteer Fire Company’s annual golf tournament.
To help raise money to maintain the various apparatuses used at the fire station, which were spread throughout the course, as well as to put funds towards purchasing a new firehouse, an endeavor the fire company has been saving for multiple years, community members filled golf carts and took to the 18hole course to compete. About 72 total golfers participated in the annual fundraising tournament.
Tom Sheahan, event organizer, thanked Homes for Heroes, Harris Crab House and Seafood Restaurant, Wye River Marine and Kelly Distributors for being main sponsors of the tournament.
The team award winners plus their scores are as follows: Billy Barrett, Ronnie Heckman, Donnie Beukema and John Gosnull, 58, first place; Clyde Kelly, Bill Horney, Bobby Kelly and Justin Schneider, 59, second place; and David Callahan, Greg Richards, Lance Neale and Hunter Kinkman, 60, third place.
The closest to the pin award went to Jason Tuel at seven feet, six inches. Other awards given out were the men and women’s longest drive, awarded to James Ciganek and Lynne Kilby George, respectively.
