Buc­ca­neers cap­ture golf­ing crown in North Bay­side

STEVENSVILLE — The Kent Is­land High golf team fin­ished the North Bay­side reg­u­lar sea­son in strong fash­ion with a first place win at Prospect Bay Coun­try Club on Thurs­day.

With the win, Kent Is­land se­cured first place for the sea­son, and main­tained the ti­tle of North Bay­side cham­pi­ons. For the sea­son, Kent Is­land had six top fin­ishes, and three sec­ond-place show­ings, edg­ing out a strong Eas­ton squad.

With more than 55 play­ers in the North Bay­side di­vi­sion, Kent Is­land fin­ished the sea­son with six starters within the top 25 in sea­son scor­ing av­er­age. Most no­tably, the Buc­ca­neers had three play­ers within the top four spots. Tay­lor Judge (se­nior, team cap­tain) fin­ished sec­ond over­all with a 40.78 scor­ing av­er­age, Har­ri­son Smith (sopho­more) fin­ished third with a 41, and Holly Haber (ju­nior) fin­ished fourth with a 41.89 av­er­age.

Judge was the top female player, and Haber came in sec­ond. Kent Is­land’s con­sis­tent fourth score for each match was Pre­ston Wilder (se­nior), who fin­ished 12th in the over­all scor­ing av­er­age race with 47.22.

The Buc­ca­neers will com­pete in the District VIII tour­na­ment at River Marsh Golf Club at the Hy­att in Cam­bridge on Tues­day. This tour­na­ment was a qual­i­fier to see which teams and in­di­vid­u­als qual­ify for the state cham­pi­onship at The Univer­sity of Mary­land Golf Course Oct. 23-25. Re­sults were not avail­able as of press time.

Kent Is­land will also play in the Bay­side Cham­pi­onship against the South Bay­side Cham­pi­ons, James M. Ben­nett. This twoteam match will be played at Queen­stown Har­bor — The River Course, at noon, Thurs­day, Oct. 12.

Kent Is­land had high ex­pec­ta­tions for the reg­u­lar sea­son, and set some lofty, yet at­tain­able, goals for the play­offs, ac­cord­ing to head coach Erik Jan­niche, . Judge is look­ing to end her high school ca­reer by lead­ing the team into the state tour­na­ment. Other team standouts, Smith and Haber are also poised to make a strong show­ing in th­ese play­offs.
