BOWIE — “Beauty and the Beast” premieres at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 8, with one performance only at 2 p.m.

Experience the magic, the metaphor, the symbolism, the humor and the romance, when the Ballet Theatre of Maryland in partnership with the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts present the hauntingly, transformative retelling of the classic fairytale: Beauty and the Beast.

“Beauty and the Beast has been my favorite fairytale since I was a child,” said Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto. “I loved her passion for reading and learning as well as her capacity for love and empathy; I also liked that she valued the inner beauty over the exterior, so I wanted to portray that through the emotions of dance, and I set out to do just that.”

Sarah Gilliam stars as the indomitable Beauty, who captures the inner beauty and intelligence of her character with selfless abandon. Enter an enchanted castle where Beauty discovers that nothing is what it seems; help her tame a Beast through the power of love; and become a part of the magic that unravels the hideous spell keeping the Beast captive. Stephaen Hood masterfully portrays the Beast with a pathos, sensitivity and passionate intensity that will melt your heart. Become a part of their story as they leap from the page to the stage through the powerful language of dance.
