Mackie among D1 pins leaders
Brandywine Heights grad has 21-12 record this season at Lock Haven
The senior has posted a 21-12 record at 174 and 184 pounds for the Lock Haven wrestling team. He has 12 pins, two major decisions and a technical fall and his pins rank second on NCAA Division I. He also has a 6-6 dual meet record and is 54-49 for his career. He’s 17-10 at 184 and 4-2 at 174, the latter including a pin in 5:45 in a 45-3 victory over Sacred Heart on Feb. 3 in Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles are 8-8 overall and 4-2 in Eastern Wrestling League matches.
The freshman has recorded two personal bests competing in the weight throw and the shot put for the York men’s indoor track team. Miller kicked off the season and career with the Spartans with a PR of 37 feet, ¼ inch to finish fourth in the weight throw at the River Hawk Opener on Dec. 3 in Selinsgrove. He had his best shot put effort of the season when he hit 29 feet, 10 ¾ inches at the Susquehanna Challenge on Feb. 3 in Selinsgrove. He finished 16th.
The sophomore is the top weight throw and shot put performer on the Utica College men’s track team in the spring and he’s prepping for the outdoor season by competing in the weight throw with the Pioneers this winter. He kicked off the campaign by throwing 36 feet, 8 ½ inches at the Pioneer Open on Dec. 3 in Utica, N.Y. On Jan. 21 he had an improved effort in the Continental Invitational in Clinton, N.Y. with a toss of 37 feet, 1 ¼ inches.
The La Salle senior has recorded personal best efforts in both the 5,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter run this winter. She captured the 5k at the Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn on Feb. 4 with a time of 18:07.57. And, she finished third in the 5k at Lehigh’s John Covert Invitational in Bethlehem on Jan. 27 with a time of 10:34.98. That later time was a big improvement from Boyer’s first 3k of the season when she finished 24th in 10:42.01 at the Great Dane Classic on Jan. 14 in Staten Island, N.Y.
